Do you have a lot of vacation time or have a flexible job that allows you to take time off? Are you interested in helping others and sharing your talents? If so, consider holiday work in the form of volunteering. Helping those who are less fortunate is sure to be rewarding. Here are some tips for finding the right volunteer holiday.

First off, you should decide what kind of volunteering you’re interested in and where you can be of most use. Do you have a trade that is in demand in developing countries? If you are in the medical field, there is a high demand for nurses and doctors to use their talents with the many impoverished people who can not pay for medical care. Are you in the construction business? There are many areas that have been hit by natural disasters that can use your knowledge to help rebuild. Are you interested in working in Spain? Native English speakers are needed to educate those who can not afford an education but need the language to move out of their poor economic situation. Even if you do not have a trade that is considered a useful job for volunteers there are still programs that need a helping hand.

The tsunami that hit a few years ago left devastating results. Many people are still living in temporary housing all over Southern Asia, India and Sri Lanka. Volunteers are needed to assist with construction and training.

English is the language of business and tourism in many countries. English teachers are needed in many parts of the world to teach children as well as adults. By learning English these people can stop the cycle of generations who can not move away from their villages to pursue work in the larger cities.

There are programs that focus on ecological issues. Many communities in third world countries are not aware of why or how to protect the environment. Some countries are slashing and burning precious rainforest or over farming their land. If you like to work with your hands then this might be a way for you to help communities and the environment. You can help replant the land or train farmers on irrigation and cultivation techniques that will help their crop and the environment.

Many think that volunteering is free since they are giving their time and energy. Since there are costs involved with housing and feeding volunteers, most programs charge a fee which includes accommodations, food and transportation and in some cases airfare.

There are many volunteer vacations and they vary in price, duration, location, and focus. Volunteer programs last anywhere from a week to several months. The internet is the best resource for finding the right organization and volunteer program for you.

So next time you have spare time off consider volunteering and helping those who are less fortunate. It’s sure to be an eye opening experience.

An adventure holiday spent in magnificent France is one spent full on with sporting, social and entertaining activities. A tourist heading for the Meribel Ski slopes in the French Alps will need to be physically on top of their game to handle the amount of fun in the snow and nightlife held in the valley as well.

The old-fashioned toboggan has made a big come back into the activity arena for families. Hours of enjoyment are had with kids sliding down hill slopes under their parent’s watchful gaze. A gentle gradient to begin with and within the half hour, children want to take on the biggest slopes they can handle.

Tobogganing is a good first step toward snowboarding for little kids, although it is a fact children as young as three years old have learned how to ski and become enthusiasts. While young, children can develop these interests, which may turn into a full time sporting occupation when they mature. On the way, they can take on many snow-sporting challenges, which will whet their appetite for amateur and eventually professional competition. There is no shortage of ski comps around the world, which involve sports people of all ages.

Meribel is in the centre of the Three Valleys, along with five other resorts located in this fantastic skiing region. Self catered apartments and chalets are available to rent out during the winter months and at a discounted rate during summer, to encourage an inflow of other mountain sports and exploration buffs. Adventure is all year round in the Three Valleys.

A free shuttle has the unique purpose of transporting people to a religious service which is held every day In Allues. From Meribel, it leaves before six pm at night following a strict timetable of every fifteen minutes. After the last run at quarter past seven pm additional communal events can occur subsequent to the Mass. Young people can make a beeline for the pubs and the more mature minded people may wish to visit one of the many local restaurants.

Slalom racing is held quite often on the slopes, so if spectator-ship is more your calling, you will not miss out. Watching the expertise of the professional skiers in action is a thrill to see. Cross-country skiing may be more to your liking, or boardercross snowboarding on one of the many tracks isolated specifically for the sport.

Safety in the mountains is a concern for government. Areas have been designed to control whatever level of skill the participants can handle. Everyone has been provided for. Special locations that suit certain events are fenced off so people can participate, observe, or play in safety.

People who are passionate about snowfields and skiing and sledding will discover all they possibly will ever wish for at the Meribel Ski slopes. Beginning with health and well-being resorts, to animated public houses, skiing the Alps to sledding or tobogganing on special tracks, no one could ever ask for more. It is all here and open for visitors winter, spring, summer and fall.

Discover more about catered ski chalets and how to rent one for holiday. Visit Meribel ski and have the holiday of a lifetime. Go online and make your reservations now.

If you are thinking of staying in a nice beach location on your Vietnam holidays then why not considering Da Nang. This location in central Vietnam has around 30 kilometres of sandy beaches not crowded at all with few very comfortable and luxurious beach resorts. Not only it is a favourite destination for tourists it is also frequented by the local population of Da Nang and other cities in the area.

One of the most popular beaches in Da Nang is My Khe. It is one of the most popular beaches amongst both domestic and international tourism. With around 1 kilometre in length My Khe it is also one of the most crowded beaches in the area.

Sea water in My Khe is cool with little wave so you can bath all year’s round, especially in summer from May to August. The lack of large waves, less than average pollution, and an annual mean temperature around 25oC, makes it a safe place to swim for adults and children alike.

Around the hotel area, there are plenty of seafood restaurants and stalls, and large numbers of local vendors traverse the beach selling all kinds of foods and drinks. Coastal specialties like shrimps, crabs, fish, cuttles, etc. in hundreds of small shops are at reasonable price. They can be irritating sometimes – if they are too persistent, you should ignore the nuisance since that is the best strategy.

The land market in Da Nang has boomed recently with many more completed transactions and rising prices. The land plots on advantageous positions in coastal residential quarters, like Pham Van Dong and My Khe areas, have seen the sale prices skyrocketing. Analysts say that the prices of land in the areas have increased by two fold in comparison with 2009.

Da nang is easily accessible by air as it has its own international airport. There are also flights available within Vietnam and it is possible to fly to other cities such as Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City from Da Nang.

Going to restaurants or hotels in foreign countries is one of the first things that a tourist experiences. The types of foods that are available in foreign places, such as Canada, can be very close to native food but different enough to be interesting to try. However, as a tourist, there are many things that one should know, lest they risk feeling awkward.

An obvious difference between a restaurant in America and one in Canada is price. The Canadian dollar has always been slightly less valuable than the US dollar, which can cause some prices to seem outrageous. When transferring to the Canadian dollar, you’re likely to get a lot more out of what you convert, but the return is that the prices you pay in Canada are significantly higher.

Many (if not most) other countries include the tip into the cost of the meal when you go to a restaurant. Since this is something Americans aren’t used to, it can cause some confusion. Some might wonder why they’re meal was so much more expensive, or might wonder why they had to pay so much (or little) as far as the tip went, and so on. It’s more convenient to have a tip directly on the bill, as it’s a guarantee to the employee and it’s an obvious courtesy from the customer.

Something that’s universal with any country is culture and cultural food. Each country has a particular food, or line of foods, that they are famous for serving or cooking with. Canada, like any country, has it’s own, but because of it’s past history with Great Britain and with France, it has adopted some of both cultures. This makes the Canadian restaurant experience that much more unique and exciting.

Even the fast-food industry is unique. Like any company, the national location changes what kinds of service are provided, and Canada is no exception. Unlike what you’d see in America, many fast food places might sell beer there. There are other such changes that you’d see that might seem strange practice to the typical US citizen.

Another of those differences is how they prepare or list some of the same foods. When you go to a restaurant that you’d see in a America, they’re likely to have some of the same items on the menu, but in a different way. In Canada, for example, they use the metric system, so a steak won’t go by the American size scale of ounces, making it hard for a foreigner to know what they’re ordering.

Like any culture, there are some food that are more popular, either because of how they’re prepared, how readily available they are, or whatever the reason. In Canada, cheese and beer are some of those foods and make their way onto most restaurant menus in one way or another. Even some franchised places may offer their food differently based on these national favorites.

No matter what restaurants and hotels you go to in Canada, the experience is still unique in its own way. In many ways, it can be hard to understand or get used to, but that’s because food means something different to Canadians than it does to Americans. They treat food as more of an art, where in America they treat is as a time consuming necessity. It’s just one of the many ways that make the foreign restaurant experience a reason to travel.

Looking to spend a relaxing night away from home? Then visit your local hotel or motel to stay overnight in luxury and bliss!

The night before Christmas, Christmas Eve, is a very magical and special time of the year. Children are “wide-eyed” with anticipation on what tomorrow will bring. They have been waiting for this time of the year for a long, long time, and it is finally here. Christmas Eve traditions differ in various countries around the world, and in this article we will be exploring some of these traditions.

Santa and his elves have been working all year for this big night. Spanning the globe via sleigh and reindeer can have you working up quite an appetite. Children to the rescue. In both Canada and the United States, children leave some milk and cookies to feed Santa’s ferocious appetite. In Australia and Britain they prefer to leave mince pies and sherry. The children of Sweden want to satisfy Santa’s love of chocolate, so they leave brownies.

Sure, Santa needs refreshment, but what about his reindeer? Children love animals, and they are not about to forget Santa’s little helpers on the big night. Kids from Australia, Britain, Canada and the United States leave a carrot to give those reindeer an extra “boost of energy”. The children who follow the Dutch custom of sinterklass go a bit further…they also leave some hay with a carrot. Placed in a shoe before going to bed, it is replaced by a gift.

Another tradition that has become popular in the United States is the reading of the book “A Visit from St. Nicholas” by Clement Clark Moore (or similar tale about Santa Claus). Other families watch a Christmas-related video or television show, like: Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, A Charlie Brown Christmas or Frosty the Snowman. Singing Santa Claus songs such as Up on the Housetop, Here Comes Santa Claus, or Santa Claus is Coming to Town are also very popular.

Just before they nod off to bed, children around the world put their stockings on mantels (i.e.: In hopes that St. Nick will soon be here). They anticipate them being filled by Santa Claus with all kinds of goodies…ready for consumption the next morning. They will take a quick look up the chimney to make sure nobody has arrived yet, and take a quick glance out the window to see any movement in the sky, and sometimes even leave the front door unlocked (i.e.: In case Santa has problems with the chimney).

Once the kids have gone off to bed parents have rituals they need to follow as well. There are lots of gifts that need to be placed under the tree. Many of the gifts will be signed “From Santa” or “Love Santa”.

Christmas Eve is a busy time of year, but a very magical time as well. We hope you enjoyed this little tour of the various traditions. In future articles we will be exploring other Christmas traditions…so stay tuned…
